Kermit claims "the war is over." He describes staying in a barren hotel with only cots and some electric lights. Throughout the letter, he expresses longing for home, family, and friends. He is surprised to hear that Kathleen is working and paying income tax, and he is paid $50 per month. He also responds to previous letters from Kathleen and says "if I never hear another gun go off, I'll be happy." At the end, Kermit describes a new battalion doctor, Abe Fellman, from Omaha. Title A name given to the resource World War Two Shadow Boxes Description An account of the resource These are Shadow boxes put together with photos, patches, medals, and pins from the time Wyman Nemecek served in the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) during World War Two. Wyman was a tail gunner and flew in forty-two missions in the South Pacific, stationed in Guadalcanal. Wyman is now the only survivor of his flight crew. The top shadow box is pictures of Wyman Nemecek (top left), his flight crew (top right and bottom), and one of he B24 bombers that his crew flew (middle). The second shadow box contains a medal Wyman received fro his service (top left), anoher picure of him (top right), his dog tags (middle left), his flight wings (middle right), and finally two patches tat represent his crew and battalion in the USAAF (bottom left and right). The name plate in the center of the second shadow box reads "SSgt Wyman L Nemecek, USAAF, 28 Jul 1943 - 26 Oct 1945, B24 Tail Gunner, 42 Missions" Wyman Nemecek is originally from Noble, OK and was born Dec. 6th, 1923. After the war, Wyman attended Oklahoma A&M, taught GI School and managed lumber yards. He came to Nebraska in 1950 and lived in the eastern part of the state. He moved to Chadron in 2013 to be near his son. Since then his wife, Helen, passed away. Wyman is proud to be the father of six, grandfather of fourteen, and great-grandfather of twenty-three. Title A name given to the resource Japanese Nambu Sidearm Description An account of the resource This Japanese Nambu firearm is an 8-MM caliber. Its serial number is 58668. Its note with the weapon states that it came from the South Pacific during World War Two. The crude workmanship on the firearm suggests that it was made hastily for a Japanese officer to go to war. The crude workmanship and the solid blot, instead of a grooved one, also suggests that it was made hastily for the war. The grooved hand guards, instead of smooth ones, point out that the weapon was made mid-war. The characteristics of the weapon point out that it is a Type 14 Nambu. The weapon is often mistaken for the German Lugar that was also used during World War two, however the two weapons have very few similarities.
