Title A name given to the resource Painted Eggs Description An account of the resource These painted eggs were painted in 1998 by Tereza Miklasova who was a Czech foreign exchange student to the Svoboda family. The document included in this photo explains how Easter is celebrated in the Czech Republic. Eggshells are saved for weeks on end for the celebration. They are painted and decorated. The design is painted on using a pin that has been stuck into a pencil eraser. The paint is made out of melted honeycomb and crayon in a spoon over a candle. On Easter day, boys and young men braid together willow branches to create a switch. They then hit the girls until the girls are forced to give up their eggs. Most of the time these eggshells are empty, but if the boy is special then he can receive a hard boiled egg. This is special because eggs are often times expensive in the Czech Republic.
