This is a small statue carved from West Virginia coal. Dr. Roger Davis of the University of Nebraska at Kearney gave the statue to Jinny Turman in 2013 as a gift since she came to UNK from West Virginia University. Davis received the owl from his mother who collected owl statues. He estimated that she obtained the coal owl between 1978 and 1980. The underside of the statue is marked with a number, 149, and sticker reading, "Handcrafted from W. Virginia Coal." The statue is 3 1/2" tall and 2 1/8" wide at the ears, its widest point.

Handmade cameo brooch from the 19th Century (c. 1870). The cameo is carved from shell and is bordered by 24 carat gold. The original fastener pin on the back is still intact and functioning. The carved scene depicts a woman walking near a town or city.<br /><br />The cameo belongs to April White (<span data-dobid="hdw">née</span> Headley) of Kearney, Nebraska. She received it from her mother, Terri Headley (<span data-dobid="hdw">née</span> Johnson) of Omaha, Nebraska, who originally received it from a member of her family. Originally, the cameo was a wedding gift to Mary Cronin (<span data-dobid="hdw">née</span> Jensen) of O'Neill, Nebraska in the 1870s. Mary is Terri's ancestor.

Original vaccination records for Vietnam veteran Jimmy Ray White. Jimmy, originally from Kearney, Nebraska, was father to Andy White and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Jimmy passed away in 2004, the same year as this case, after extensive chemotherapy and a long illness.
This original booklet contains extensive, detailed information about the required vaccinations for each Vietnam soldier. These included, but were not limited to, Typhoid, Polio, Tetnis, and the Flu. Many Vietnam Veterans are still suffering from various side effects of these particular vaccine administrations, such as Hepatitis C, many of which resulted from unsanitary administration equipment and areas.

Original record for Jimmy Ray White. Jimmy served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. These documents are dated 2004, well after his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force. Jimmy, originally from Kearney, Nebraska, reenlisted to the Air Force several times before the conflict in Vietnam officially ended. Jimmy was father to Andy White. Jimmy passed away in 2004, the same year as this case, after extensive chemotherapy and a long illness.
This document is significant because it shows the full-effects of PTSD combined with the effects of Agent Orange gas poisoning. According to his sons Andy and Cullen White, Jimmy used a variety of substances in an attempt to self-medicate himself (illegal drugs and alcohol). This, combined with his reenlistments, illustrates that PTSD was prevalent in those who served in the Vietnam War, and needed more recognition than merely calling it "shell shock." Also, it shows that PTSD is not a "new" ailment for those who serve in active duty.
In this document, some editing has been done by Jimmy Ray White himself. His writing is indicated by everything written in all capital letters, and he has highlighted some areas as well. According to his sons, some of Jimmy's added information is incorrect (such as his indicated that he never used drugs, or that his mother, Patricia M. White (now McCullough) was incompetent), illustrating the deep effects of his PTSD combined with Agent Orange gas poisoning.
