Michele Wyman's Grandmother's Scapular

Title

Michele Wyman's Grandmother's Scapular

Subject

Italian-American family history; Little Italy, Omaha, Neb.

Description

This scapular is a religious piece which one drapes over their neck. It belonged to Michele Wyman's grandmother and dates back to 1934. In the Catholic faith, scapulars were meant to hang over the shoulders, and would serve to remind the wearer of their commitment to Catholicism. Looking closely, you can see worn images on the leather patches, which often detailed saints or other important Catholic figures.
