Armed Forces Enlistment Contract

Subject

War and Vietnam War Documents, Enlistment Contract

Description

Original paper Enlistment Contract for Jimmy Ray White into the Armed Forces of the United States in 1974. Jimmy, originally from Kearney, Nebraska, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. This contract represents Jimmy's re-enlistment after two Honorable Discharges in 1968 and 1971. Jimmy was father to Andy White. It is significant because it could represent Vietnam-era PTSD and serve as proof that many soldiers reenlisted because they were unable to cope with returning to normal civilian life following their service in Vietnam. Jimmy passed away in 2004, after extensive chemotherapy and a long illness related to Agent Orange Gas Poisoning.
