Title

Heather Thomas

Description

This collection includes ice block tongs that were used as a tool to extract ice from rivers in the winter to cool the boxes people had prior to refrigerators. These specific tongs were used by an ice company in Holyoke, MA on the Connecticut River. They were inherited from Heather Thomas' father, after being passed down from her paternal grandfather, the original user, who died in 1969. This collection was contributed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln spring 2014 History Harvest.
